VOIX
INVISIBLES
Giulia Gallina’s project Voix Invisibles (in collaboration with Cristina Italiani) has been selected by the Anna Lindh Foundation to promote the intercultural dialogue in the Euro-Mediterranean region, and thanks to Association Agir Ensemble, Anna Lindh Réseau Maroc and Associação Cultural Luso-Grega “Parafonia”, she had the privilege to spend one month in Safi, Morocco and collaborate with incredible local musicians and artists.
The result of this collaboration has been a two-hour performance featuring women’s choir “Collectif Shérazade”, group of dancers “Historya” and musicians from the desert “Gnawa Bambara” that took places in several locations.
Voix Invisibles is conceived as a sound art performance in which the voices of women in all their nuances tell a journey towards the freedom to be, to exist, to express themselves.
The soundscape created by the recording of multiple voices of Mediterranean women, different in terms of age, language, culture and personal history, contributes to building a narrative in which multifaceted forms of expression and sounds intersect with the musical repertoire proposed by the artists and imagined to accompany the audience in the exploration of unknown territories inside and outside the human soul.
The intention of Voix Invisibles is to narrate, through sound, music and poetry, the often ignored or forgotten stories of women, each one carrying her own vision of freedom.
Against the backdrop of this vast linguistic and sound fabric, Voix Invisibles is an opportunity to reflect on the strength of women’s voices, the need to listen and the differences that unite the cultures of the Mediterranean.
